What Shield Vault adds
Encrypted internal storage
A 256 GB SSD on board, encrypted at rest. You switch encryption on when you first set up the drive — it needs a passphrase and a recovery key only you hold, so we can't do it for you. The auto-unlock key is bound to the device's own silicon, independent of your passphrase and recovery key. Lift the SSD into another machine and it stays dark.
Time Machine for Macs
Vault is a calm, local Time Machine target. Backups stay on your network and never leave the property.
Recycle bin
When something is accidentally deleted, the recycle bin keeps a copy. A small thing that saves a bad day.
Travel Wi‑Fi — no cable needed
Vault joins the hotel or Airbnb Wi‑Fi — even networks with a login page — and broadcasts your own calm, filtered Wi‑Fi for your devices.
Follow-Me Filtering
Your kids' phones stay behind your rules wherever they are — on mobile data, at school, at a friend's place. Each phone connects back to your own Shield through a free app, set up by scanning a code. No accounts, and no cloud doing the filtering — that still happens at home, on your device.
Follow-Me, honestly
The phone's owner can switch the connection off in the app — and your Shield shows when each phone last connected, so you'll know. A dedicated WOMBATS app that makes switching off harder is planned. If your home internet or Shield is offline, a phone set to always-protected has no internet until it reconnects. And if your home connection can't accept an incoming connection — Starlink, mobile broadband — the phone comes home through our relay in Australia, end-to-end encrypted, so we can't read your family's browsing.

Capacity guidance
Shield Vault is comfortable with 15–25 browsing devices, around 3 combined direct‑play streams, 1–2 Time Machine backups, 2 SMB file transfers and 15–25 connected Wi‑Fi AP devices at the same time. These are comfort targets, not benchmark maxima, first full Time Machine backups should be staggered, and ideally done in home mode rather than over the Vault Wi‑Fi AP.
